The Russian national team of 15-16 year olds is making a tour of Canada and stopped in Sault Ste Marie this week to play in a tournament. Earlier in the week, they played a couple exhibition games against the local Soo, Ontario and Soo, Michigan AAA teams. They beat the Soo, On team 3-2 and went to a shoot out against the Soo, MI team and won.
It's a whole different style of play, even at this age. Puck on the stick no more than 2 seconds and they can skate like the wind! They also don't like physical play. They'd rather deak you out of your skates! I tried to interview them for the local online news, but not a one speaks English.
I also have photos of the Russian National Junior team preparing for the World Juniors by traveling and playing against OHL teams. I'll post those later.
