Ok so the new iMac came and I am going to use migration assistant as I have done the last 4-5 times. Here's the question. It seems without all kinds of adapters I can not use firewire old to new because there is no firewire on the new. I am reading that you can connect the two using only an ethernet cable plugged into each Mac? I know I can migrate from my Time Machine drive but that thing is so bloated with junk I have long since trashed. So am I guessing right in that you would just have both macs plugged into power and the only other connection is the ethernet cable from one mac to the other and follow the prompts?

Not sure what your old machine is, but you can do ethernet or wifi nowadays. If your new computer only has usb-c ports, just get a usb-c --> ethernet adapter if you want to plug it in. I have an anker that works great.
