Moon @ 2000mm

Took the 500mm f/4 P out last night and decided to stack some TC's on it.

The moon COMPLETELY filled the frame, and in fact, the top 2-3% of the moon is from a second shot because it didn't all quite fit. Thank you Photoshop :biggrin:

Anywho... 500mm f/4 P + Tamron MC7 BBAR 2x TC + Nikon TC-200 = 2000mm f/16.

This shot was taken with mirror lockup & cable release (waited for the vibrations to stop!) at 1/160th f/22.

Probably because of long exposure noise.

ISO1600 :wink: EDIT: ISO1000 actually

Had to crank it up that high to get an acceptable shutter speed.

Whoops my bad... ISO1000 is correct. I had shot most of them at 1600... forgot I cranked it down a bit for this one.

Great shot. Last night I was out with my Nikkor 800 with the TC-301 myself but it's still not as frame filling as yours. Tonight I might try adding another 1.4 to the mix.
Your shot makes me regret selling my nikkor 500 ED-IF P.

Wouldn't a longer shutter time and a lower iso result in less noise? Assuming you're shooting from a tripod (500/4 makes me think you do), 1/10" will still be fast enough to get a sharp moon I'd think - earth rotation becomes a factor when your shutter time is minutes, not seconds.

Still better than anything I've ever done, though. Don't get me wrong on that :smile:
