Now I see the man on the moon!

Nice shots. Though the second pic seems a tiny little unsharp, maybe camera shake? But it's late here (actually already morning), so most likely my eyes are tired.

Thanks for sharing.

I think what you are seeing with the 2nd shot is the softness caused by adding a 2xTC. When I get another chance I will do shots with the 300/f4+1.4TC and the 50-500 without a TC for a better test. I think the 300+TC will win for detail and sharpness.

It may be time to consider letting the 50-500 go.

Nice shots....

When I was out waiting for the Shuttle launch, some folks saw me taking ramdom pics of the folks around waiting also. The Tiki bar folks across the waystarted hollaing at me here is a moon shot for ya, and a guy mooned and fired I off some shots.
He did a little moom dance. Of all the bad pics I got that day,

The mooney guy was the best and clearest. Go figure

Guess Cant post it on here though.

That was so funny.

Charles,

I love your prime list: 24/2.8, 35/2, 45P, 50/1.4, 50/1.8, 60/2.8, 85/1.8, 180/2.8, 300/4

My most used lens on D2X is the 35 f/2

btw: the Nikkor wins the shootout too I reckon.

cheers,

Simon,

I need to get the 35/2 out more often. :) My prime list has a couple of holes that need to be filled. That gap between 85 and 180 is bugging me and the search for a good super wide continues.

Great pictures. Was there any cropping involved?

Yes, both images were cropped. The 300 + 1.4 considerably more than the 50-500 + 2 image. The same sharpening routines were used on both images.

Gale :

Well, maybe not in this thread, but you could offer your "Moon shot" over in People/Portraiture (unless the moderators bounce it !   )

Thanks Chris. :)

The 300 f4 kicked the Sigma's butt in every way. Detail, sharpness, and contrast. Add to that the focal length advantage the Bigma had!

The 8x10 glossy I printed of the 300's image was impressive, to say the least.
