  1. This stop was in Home Bay, Baffin Island, Canada. It was the site of a now abandoned RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) outpost.

The relics here were a bit more modern than in Beechy Island or in Greenland earlier in our adventure:
    NIKON D300    ---    82mm    f/5.0    1/125s    ISO 900

Our archaeologist was well armed, but missing Indy's whip and fedora. Found yet another relic:
    NIKON D300    ---    46mm    f/4.5    1/125s    ISO 800

Hey, another grave site, "Anybody in there?":
    NIKON D300    ---    18mm    f/3.5    1/125s    ISO 450

Here is another one, right on the surface, "Let's take a peek" :

    NIKON D300    ---    48mm    f/4.5    1/60s    ISO 200

  2. Neat, Bob.

    Why the rifle? Polar bears?
  3. Hi Jim,

Correct, all the guides carried rifles when we were hiking in the potential Polar Bear areas (most of the outings). They even had them when we went out on zodiac rides without a landing. Several also carried flare guns to try to scare the bears first before having to shoot.

You don't mess around with those Polar Bears, they are the largest land carnivore!
