moving hard drive

    I just buit up a new computer, I want to take my second HD out of my old comp wich was XP and install it in my new comp wich is vista.

    Is there anything special I need to do?
    Just go to bios and adrees the new drive?

    My computer does not seem to know wich drive to boot off of first it wants me to install the os on the second drive.

    I must need to switch something in bios, right?

    Does your system boot up when only the vista HD is connected?

    What type of cable are you using? SATA?

    Make sure your 2nd drive jumper is set as slave.

    Thanks for all the replies. I got it now.
    I went into boot sequence and set 1st and second drive respectivly, now all is well.
    I started building this machine 24 hrs ago, closeing in on the final small details.

    This is what i pu together.
    Coolermaster centurion 590 case
    500w extreem power supply

    ansus p5q mb
    q6600 quad cpu
    4 gigs corsair xps 800mhz
    radeon 2600 pro 256mb graphics card
    two WD 500gig drive one new one old (7months)
    zelman cpu fan
    multi card reader
    litescribe optical drive
    front and rear case fans 120mm

    so far it rocks

    once again I need to extend many thanks to all the folks who allways jump in to help out not just myself, but everyone that needs a hand.:866::667:

    Nice system you have! It is actually quite similar to one of my systems for AV!

    One thing to bear in mind is whenever you remove or add another HDD you need to check the BIOS. Unless it has been changed manually as you did, the default boot disk is always the first one that was installed. If 2 HDDs are indtalled at the same time, most BIOS will use the lower numbered one as boot disk.
