I'm the proud new owner of a brand new Nikkor 80-200mm f2.8. Unfortunately for me, it was delivered to my house at 12:20 this afternoon and I'm stuck at work until midnight! Grrrrrr!

And to top it off, it's supposed to rain all day tomorrow. Isn't that always the way!

I'll post 'em when I get 'em! (Sigh.)

John...you are going to love shooting with it. Make sure the house chores are completed then go out and fill the CF card.

It is a fine lens, John. I'm sure it will be pleased to be in your hands. The 80-200 was my first f/2.8 zoom, and it immediately became my favorite lens. From what I can gather from the local pros, the various 80-200 Nikkors have always been among their favorites over the years.

The problem is you will love it and then look for the next lens to love........Really as everyone will tell you it is so good they had to come out witht the 70-200 to compete with it.

  5. I loved my 80-200...some of the best photos I ever took ...even on my older push-pull type. But after owning a 70-200...the 80-200 seems so "fat" in your hands.

    First post with lens

Well, I had some time today to shoot with the new lens. I haven't culled through everything but I thought I'd share one of the first ones that I liked:

    44373228.

    I'm liking this lens already!

  8. John,
That image is just superb! The 80-200 is by far
    my favorite lens. Well Done!!

    Cheers,
    Robin

Woah! That's not just the lens but great timing too! Wonderful expression - especially the look in her eyes!

  11. Wow beautiful shot, love her face and the timing.

  12. Hi John,

    Beautiful capture. Good job.

Have you noticed the jagged edge? It may be due to over-sharpening, or am I just seeing this in my monitor?

    Thanks all....

Thanks all for your kind words. As most of you predicted, this lens is a real joy to work with. Fast and sharp. Now, I need more subjects!

  16. Re: Thanks all....

Here's another prediction that isn't so pleasant, John.

The 80-200/2.8 is your first taste of Nikon pro glass, and it will ruin your pleasure in affordable lenses.
Soon you'll be on the upgrade trail, and testing the soundness of your marriage .

That's a tasty collection you have there. You would love the 80-200, it's a definite match to the rest of the crew. The zoom gets really close to the 180 for quality. Just a wee bit large and heavy, but not enough to discourage any but the very faint of heart.

    Soundness of my marriage?

    What soundness of my marriage?

My wife already refers to my camera bag as "the other woman."
