    Andy,

Thanks for your comments. While I do not own or have used the 50/1.8,
photogs I respect prefer it to the 50/1.4.

The 50/1.8 is one of the sharpest lens around. See PZ for tests. The 50/1.8
seems to be preferred for stopped down pics.

    Best regards.

Nice Stuff. I love my 50mm f/1.4. It's my "Help I'm stuck in a rut" lens. When I'm just not feeling the photo juices flowing and need spark, I take one camera and just the 50mm f/1.4 and it's seems to work every time.

  5. Nice pics. I love my 50mm 1.8
    Sharpest one I own.

    Todd,

Thanks for looking. Agree, just one lens focuses one's mind.

    Regards.

    Alex,

Thanks for your kind words. Glad there are some of us who love our
    50mm. Sweet lens.

    Regards.

  8. After a few lenses, the difference in price between the 50/1.8 and 50/1.4 is not all that big. Both are reasonably affordable, and both are good. Never quite figured out why people couldn't just accept the price difference without needing some kind of justification. We need more unity and pride in the 50mm realm without putting them down. The 50/1.8 zealots say the f/1.4 is an overpriced unnecessary luxury, while the f/1.4 zealots say the 50/1.8 has a "cheap" character and poorer subjective qualities (huh?).

I like both. Were I to jump on the DSLR train again, I'd use a 50/1.4AFD instead of the 50/1.8 due to the cooler cast of the 50/1.4 and bigger aperture. In AIS land, the f/1.8 keeps me perfectly satisfied.

I figure if someone's planning to get a 50/1.8, then just get it and take good pics with it. If you want the 50/1.4, save up and get it, and take good pics with it. By the time you purchase 5-6 lenses, the cost difference between the 50/1.8 and 50/1.4 becomes pretty insignificant.

    Good pics as usual, tasnim.
