My first few shots with the 200-500mm lens

  1. I've had my 200-500 for a little over a week now and have only had a few chances to get out and shoot with it. My first observation is it's a keeper. It is well balanced on both my D500 and D5, the VR seemed much improved and appears tack sharp in the center.

Here's a couple shots I've been able to get out and take given our weather of late.

    1. D5, 500mm, F6.3, 1/60, ISO1250, handheld
    DSC_9423 72wf.

    2. D5, 500mm, f5.6, 1/125, ISO1100, handheld
    DSC_9584 -272wf.

    3. D5, 410mm, f8, 1/1250, ISO 2000, handheld
    DSC_9986 72wf.

  5. Nicely done Louis....Love the shot of my nemesis

  6. It is a lens proving to be very popular, and for good reason it seems. Excellent examples.

  7. Nice. Between you and Bobby and Randy I'm gonna end up probably buying one of these...

I just need to stop looking at the great images you guys are posting. :D

  8. Unlike the D850 they are actually in stock. Might wanna hurry though cause I think they were made in the plant in China that is closing.

  9. I think the 200-500 is the best "bargain" of all Nikon lenses currently on the market. Great shots Louis!(as always!)

  10. Thanks Randy, and I must say you along with others with your postings from shots with this lens was what pushed me over the top to get it.

    Thank you Allan.

Thanks very much Darrell, and boy are you right about growing on you. I went to the ocean this past week and never took another lens other than the 200-500. I really enjoy being able to handhold a lens in the focal length.

  11. Wow - hard to believe that quality at that price.

Wow! 1/60th @ 500mm hand held! Stunning capture of the pileated woodpecker! The other shots are nice also, although a little more isolation on the deer would have been nice.

  13. Wow Louie, wonderful series of shots. The detail on each of them is a testament to good technique and fine glass.

  14. some sweet shots!

  15. Tack Sharp!

Great shots and Wonderful news to hear.

  17. Thanks very much for all of your comments, I appreciate them very much. From what little I have shot with this lens so far I'm very impressed with what it can do and I'm anxious to see how it does for shooting birds in flight in the Northwest where the light isn't always in our favor being ISO shots. Thanks all again.
