Finally got a chance to try shooting fireworks during a summer celebration my town did this evening. Read a lot of tips and had some trees in the foreground. Unfortunately, they changed their launch point from the last time I saw them and they didn't go up as high as they used to. Used my 70-200, and my remote. D300, Manual focus set to Infinity, AutoWB (prob should have used Tungsten), ISO 200, f11. Question....do you sharpen your shots in post? Sometimes when I sharpened, I seemed to lose color, i.e. the white portions got sharper and more pronounced and obscured the colors. Here's an example. Unsharpened: {} Sharpened (70%, Radius 1 Adjust Sharpness in PSE6), see how much blue is lost. {} 1. All these are sharpened. {} 2. {} 3. {} 4. {} 5. {} 6. {} 7. {} 8. {} 9. {}
Thanks Brenda, I learned that I held the shutter open too long on the grand finale as many were overexposed (not shown)..next time 1-3 seconds prob...
It has been my experience- that almost every Grand Finale will over expose . . . just for what it is worth, and the relevant reality.
Nice, I took some shots of fireworks over the 4th of July and never uploaded them, I will have to do that.
