Saturday morning, I went to meet Frank and Patrick at the dam to hopefully shoot some bald eagles. We saw them again, but no one had any luck getting any pictures. My son Cameron, who is 11, went with me and Frank loaned him his backup D2H to take shots with. When Frank and Patrick left to drive to the other side of the river, he let me and Cameron keep the D2H for the morning, so I shot with the D70 and Cameron used the D2H with the Sigma 28-300.

For a beginner, I think he did pretty well:

The next two are an odd angle. I sent Cameron around behind the heron, to get a shot as it flew toward the water and over me. Instead, it circled around him and he got a rapid sequence of flight shots against dead grass and power poles instead of water. They were all in focus and fairly well framed:

Oh yeah, here he is at work:

  2. With 11 year old's taking shots like that, I haven't got a chance...

Great pics, especially for the first time out with a loaner camera!

    Chris,

These shots are downright depressing.

I know that I said that you needed to get yourself a D2H (or Hs or X), but now I'm not sure that you shouldn't keep the D70 and get Cameron the big gun.

    Great shots Cameron.

  5. Same feeling here. Next time I go shooting, maybe I should just hand the camera to my son who just turned 11.

    Anyway, very nice shots.
