My tribute to the artesanal fishermen

Discussion in 'Wanderlust and Travel' started by Rui Lopes, Aug 1, 2007.

  1. Still today, some fishermen from my country dare to go out our shores, fishing in small boats of about 20ft. powered by engines of 50/60hp. It's a risky life because they leave about 5a.m., almost with all weather and work at 4 miles from the shore. They are very religious and oftenly organize local festivities to the Virgin and their fisherman saint - S.Peter. Generally, they ornate their boats accordingly. Here, some images of such events:

Yes Rui, we both know how hard theur life is! Even here near Lisbon where the sea is not so strong, 3 men lost their lives last March (in Sesimbra) when their boat was turned by a wave.
Nice idea from you to dedicate your pictures to all of them.

  5. Thank you Vazquez! Nice to see you around again!
