You have done a really nice job in taking these fireworks images; however, posting so many is redundant and boring. Picking out 4 or 5 of your stellar images would be much more interesting and would also get more views I feel. Not knocking your photography, which is very good, just the manner of displaying them.

CC taken.

Next year I'll only post the best of the best.

I'd eliminate a few now, but I have sent the link to this post to some friends.

Ciao,
John

WOW, talk about some stunning fireworks! These make the ones we had here look like little ol' firecrackers! Beautiful for sure, cuz! I loved every one of them! Wish I could do that!

lucky that no fire was started when the shoot the fireworks over land like that

great shots
i agree that less would be better
but....
i'd clone out the buildings
the pictures would be even better with nothing else to see in the frame, IMHO

Thanks!

It's easy...

3-4secs depending on how bright/dark the fireworks are
F/10 worked for me
ISO 100
tripod
remote

etc...

Hmm, last year I shot in landscape and didn't get the buildings. It was the one single thing I wanted to change about this years fireworks photos.

So this year I shot portrait so I could have a part of the skyline to show the location more than anything.

Now I'll take vote - yes or no for cropping off the buildings on these shots and leaving out the skyline in next years shoot?

concerning the buildings, I would want either more, or less. Meaning, I like having the buildings in view, but wish they were a bit brighter. That or get rid of them like in the later shots.

Personally....i like some of the local scene to show.....how much is to each shooter...but fireworks with nothing to help tell the story, set the scene, or give sense of perspective are not nearly as effective imo.....

But more on this is...

They have most areas blocked off for safety that could provide a better perspective.

Second is the other side of the river is crowded with people and not a good place to setup up a camera with tripod as someone would trip over it, or get ****** because I'd be in their way.

The other negative to being on the other side of the river is the background is boring and there is no cityscape on that side.

I can't really get it from the right side of the Titans stadium because the angle wouldn't work well with the fireworks.

I have one more possible place to scout out for getting more cityscape in the shot. I've got to take a closer look to see of my lens has the reach to get it. I'll report back asap in a new thread on that and how it turns out.

Later all. :smile::biggrin::cool:

Some of those shots look over-saturated to me. I think with fireworks, there is a point at which you should lighten-up a little in post. By that I mean not trying to overdue it. Don't get me wrong, they're great and clear shots. However, for my tastes, I think there's a limit as to how far you push the color envelope to still keep them looking like real fireworks.

These photos are better than some of the live displays we have seen

That's my point.

To each his own.

I love color and that's why I shoot colorful things such as night cityscapes, fireworks, etc., and I always use color mode IIIa + saturation cranked all the way up in camera.

They were all shot in jpeg fine with D80 and 18-135mm lens. Then edited in Nikon CNX2 to lighten the foreground and make the cityscape show up better, then I added more saturation.

My D300 in color mode IV Vivid + saturation all the way up shoots fireworks that colorful without having to add saturation in post processing.

I guess you could say when viewing my photos you're viewing things the way I like see them - colorful.

Well, I like the color punched up like John did these AND I like the buildings in the background. We had a pretty good breeze where I was shooting in North Carolina and we were upwind, so I didn't have to deal with as much smoke. Nice shots...

Nice images. I like the vertical images and the building. I shot landscape and struggled with some of my images looking like they were to far away. I have a year to think about how I want to approach next year.

Your images are inspiring!

I think they look great. I like the buildings, without it, no personality. Thanks for sharing all of them and sharing your experience with us.
