National Aviary photos-many pics

  1. The National Aviary is in Pittsburgh, Pa., the web site is here.

I visited there Sunday for the first time in many years. It's America’s only independent indoor nonprofit bird zoo. The Aviary is home to 600+ birds of more than 200 species. Many are threatened or endangered in the wild.

Some of the rooms are open, without fences or nets permiting free range for the birds. Other areas are fenced.

These were all shot with a D200 and 70-200 VR

If you shoot through a fence it can look like this

But if you get the lens close enough to the fence it can look like this

You can probably tell on this one I replaced the background.
    All others are original.

  4. Thanks Lisa and Gale,

I never photographed birds before, it's not easy.

A nice set of shots. I probably wouldn't have notice the background replacement if you hadn't mentioned it.

I added the National Aviary to my list of places to visit the next time I'm in that part of the world. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
