I was down at the pond this morning and noticed a very nervous looking mother duck with her young huddling underneath her (I could hear them quacking). I took her picture, and you can barely see her young underneath her chest.

Then I looked next to her and noticed her dead duckling...now I realize why she was very nervous and her young were being kept under her. I'm not sure what killed the duckling, but it was a very sad scene.

I've been watching the guys grow up and I hate that one of them didn't make it.

That sucks. We have some black crowned night Herons at our pond that snatch up the ducklings. I have watched several families of ducks dwindle down to nothing this year.
