I wanted a ND filter for my 400mm f2.8, I know the drop in filter is 52mm.
But is it a case of unscrewing (have gently tried unscrewing it, but seems rather tight) and screwing in a ND one (any width issues?).

What filter have people used in doing this?

The above seems to be a chore to swap the filters over so do people use another filter holder for the ND filter. I take you can get additional filter holders?

Yeah the filter can be a bit tough to remove sometimes. You just have to use a little bit more force, it will come out.

Filter Wrench

B&H sells a filter wrench for $4.95 that works like a charm. I had a thin polarizer on my 70-200 and could not get it off and thought I was going to break the lens I was twisting so hard and picked up a fiter wrench from B&H and it came off like magic.

I actually discovered another really good filter unsticker the other day. You can try the bottom of a Dr. Scholl's gel shoe insole. Sounds stupid but it's super-soft rubber that'll stick to anything and get it right off.

Thanks all, think I might look in to getting another filter holder don't fancy screwing and unscrewing the filters in the field.
