I spotted this Northern Flicker a few weeks ago in my backyard and didn't bother it too much hoping to see little one, today I discovered that its a male. Is it possible he's incubating eggs this late in the season or is this just his home? He is always in the hole, sometime hiding and other times popping his head out. This was shot today.

He may be incubating eggs ,, the pair both incubate the eggs ,, I had a pileated woodpecker pair here and watched the whole nesting season from excavating the hole to the day before the fledge ,, I went to work and when I came hole they had left the hole ,, During that time the male actually did more incubating and feeding of the young than the female ,,, I was really surprised ,,, He woiuld go in with food and come out with waste .. was really a neat time ,,, so keep an eye on the hole ,,,,
