Thanks Rich for the info. I used to check very frequently the Nikon support site for the firmware upgrade, but didn't do so as was travelling. Logged in here and the first thing I see was your post.

    Thanks once again..

  5. Thanks
I was sure there wouldn't be any upgrades once the D90 was released - but was wrong I guess

I just ran the firmware update on my D80 - no problems

Hopefully I will avoid this annoying DBS problem (that I never experienced)
  6. It's an intermittent problem. It only affects me when I use the battery grip, and only after having the camera for over a year-and-a-half.

I'm currently using firmware 1.01 on my D80. Do I need to upgrade to 1.1 before I do 1.11?
  8. I wouldn't think so - firmware usually overrides the previous releases
  9. Updated mine as soon as i got it last year. :)

I'm a bit apprehensive yet only had the camera a couple of months, its still on 1.01.

Thanks for the tip, my D80 is still running version 1.01.
  12. Follow the instructions from Nikon online - it is very straightforward

If you have any issues, take it to your local camera store and they can help you out

Its really very simple. Download the .exe file from Nikon and double click on it. It will expand the file into two files, one ends in an A.bin and the other ends in B.bin. Put the A.bin on your memory card and insert into camera. Go to the menue area where it displays the firmware and there will be an option to upgrade. Select OK and don't turn camera off until it is done. Repeat the procedure with the B.bin file and you are done.
  14. Funny, my new D80 (bought two weeks ago) already has v1.11

I guess they update in-house ones first obviously. At least it lets me know I have a newer build model and not one that has been sitting around the warehouse.
  15. ^ I knew you would regret your username, the first time I saw it...

Congrats on the D80 pickup - enjoy it

My first DSLR was a D40, purchased in Broomfield, CO

What is the DBS issue? I haven't noticed anything wrong on mine except the matrix metering.
  17. Yeah, that was a lack of foresight in my part
  18. It stands for Dead Battery Syndrome

I never had it on my D80 - until I attached the MB-D80 - it would reset in the middle of taking shots

I took the MB-D80 in for repair - haven't had a problem since
