With these new lenses, Nikon will have a full compliment of AFS G VR super-telephotos: 200/2, 300/2.8, 400/2.8, 500/4, 600/4.

They also have a complete lineup of professional full-frame zooms with continuous focal lengths from 14 - 400mm: 14-24/2.8, 24-70/2.8, 70-200/2.8, 200-400/4.
These are all AFS G lenses, the telephotos with VR. It seems that Nikon is less inclined to put VR onto shorter zooms, except for consumer super-zooms.

I doubt there will ever be an AF 50/1.2, that's wishful thinking (the rumor said "about half a dozen", which to me, means anywhere between 5-7 lenses. We got 5). The Nikon mount is probably too small to fit the rear element with AF contacts - it's already a tight fit with the AIS lenses which don't have AF contacts.

All that is needed now is an upgrade of the shorter primes. The wideangle lenses are already no match for the D2X sensor, and will suffer even worse in comparison with a high-res full frame sensor. Although lenses in this range have largely been replaced by zooms, there is still a need for primes which are smaller, lighter and more discreet, and for faster apertures. I also think the 180/2.8 should be updated - the optics are fine but the barrel design is old - no AFS and a clunky AF-M switch.

I don't get the 24-70 w/o VR. Is the 4mm on the short end really that significant an improvement over the Beast absent the VR? Maybe it's an error and it really has VR. Only 4 hours to finding out.

5k? I was expecting 3k. Either is out of my price range so it doesn't really matter anyway. Too bad the D300 isn't FF with the DX crop just minus the speed and some settings of the D3. Maybe down the road such a camera will come about.

I can't wait to see some D3 samples though.

I didn't see a lens announcement, did I miss it? Seemed to all be focused on the D3, and maybe rightfully so, looks sweet. with DUAL CF card slots, killer new AF system, and fantastic new LCD. :)

A replacement for the D2Hs capable of 9 frames per second with 12.2 mpx full frame sensor, (FX) and 5.1 mpx with DX size lenses using only part of that sensor...

Its the prices of the lenses that give your heart a fast beat or two. Hmmm, a $1000 is now the price of the prosumer lens (12/24, 80-200, 300 AFS f4), and the new super tele's...second mortagage But I am so glad that Nikon has finally responded...from the D40 to the D3 a very nice lineup. I'm sure the D3x is going to a heart breaker - both in its images and price. if the D3 is the new D2hs at $5K - whats the X going to cost?:)

Time for bed, but before I shut off the light I'll tell my D70 and D200 they're still loved:)
