    From another forum.

    "Nikon filled a patent for a 24mm f/1.4 lens at December 4, 2008. Approved July 30, 2009.

So a good sign that we will see a new AF-S 24mm f/1.4 later this year."

    "They also filed a patent for a 35/1.4 at May 8, 2008. Publication date February 4, 2009."
  2. Nice!

So looks like a spring release. Maybe that leaked Nikon roadmap is coming ture. The D300s, D3000 and 70-200mm II where on there and came ture.

    Guess we'll wait and see.

Filing for patent and/or patent approval does not guarantee release of a product.

Date of patent approval does not have anything to do with date of product release.

I'd like to see anything at f1.0 or smaller, but just to lust after. Kinda like a Ferrari. I'll never have one, but they are nice to dream about...

  6. This is just a fun post and not proof of anything. It's all wishful thinking.

But patents proceed release. And, these are 2 lenses already in Canon's lineup. Makes sense that Nikon follows suit.

I was all excited about this at first tell I remembered the prices of things lately.
  14. $3500? for a 24mm prime really??? Better be "good!" I hope for far lower, otherwise big time PASS!!!

FWIW in Japan the current Canon 24 1.4 has an MSRP of 246,750 yen and the 35 1.4 is 215,250 yen. The respective prices at Map Camera are 194,800 and 162,000 yen.

Given the differences in pricing between Canon and Nikon, and the differences in prices of Nikon products in the U.S. and Japan, my guess is that the U.S. list price of a Nikon 24 1.4 would be about $1900 and that of a 35 1.4 would be about $1600.

Of course, if these turn out to have hand ground elements like the old 28 1.4 and 58 1.2 Noct, then they will be much more expensive.

I wouldn't hold my breath for hand ground elements, those days are gone. Still a Nikon 24 1.4 would be nice. Until than, my Nikkor 24 2.8 AIS will do just fine.

That's pretty much what I think, too. However, it was the hand ground elements that made those two lenses special.

They better be wrapped in metal for that kind of money!

    lucky I'm done with NAS:rolleyes:
  20. Goodness me~ 24/1.4 is madness. With AF-S, it would be a very nice nightime walk-around prime on DX.
