$500 is nothing compared to 7k
And you take a beating on the trade in price

Their problem is the D4 is too good

Totally agree. But for someone who might be in the market for a D5, it is still something to consider. I never bit on either the D4 or the D5 since I found my D3 and D3S to be sufficient for my needs, but I did sell my D3 last month after I picked up a D500. So now for sports, I use my D3S and D500. Still a very nice combo.

i should have kept my D3s. The D800 was impressive as was the D500 and I rode the D7k,D7100,D7200 Merry go round and I kept the D7200 after I got the D500 but I'm done. No D810, no D5, it's a waste of money. The small slice of improvement gets smaller every time

Seems you and I are on the same page here. I love my D810 when I need the resolution - I cannot image an improvement to this body if it is used for non-action photography. And I also enjoy the D500 as a 2nd body on the sidelines or shooting wildlife.
If I didn't have a D800 I would have got an 810 but I'm not convinced I'd see any improvement, the D800 is so good to my eyes I'm not sure it gets any better:)

The D5 is much better for sporting events under the lights. If you like the D4, you'll love the D5 and I did like my D4.

Odd that they offer the rebate for D300 and then the D610, 750 and 810 but there is nothing for the D700. You would think if they are going back to the D300 they would have included the D700. I just picked up the D810 so I'm not looking to upgrade but just making an observation.

Will I see a difference at iso8k ?
And I don't mean at 100%

Actually I've already seen a side by side test at iso400 so I know the answer to that

Interesting. I wonder what the dealer will give me for my D300? Probably take the camera for $10 and let Nikon give me $500 off the overpriced D5.

I'm shooting a soccer tournament this weekend with my new D500. I doubt the $4000 upcharge for the D5 would be justified with the decent lighting I should have with these 10 games.

Randy,
The answer yes you will notice a difference at ISO-8000 and higher. There is also a BIG improvement in focus performance. You will at least double your keeper rate under high school lights (gym & field). Here's a sample from the other day at ISO-16,000 (my D4 wouldn't have pulled this shot off):

Hey Rick,

So how do you like your D500/D3s combo? When do you use each one and when do you switch over from one to the other?

Thanks,

Andy

My D4 has 0 AF issues in any light, it never misses

Randy, the D4 is a great camera. I still have my D4 for backup and those times when I need two bodies (like wide angle emo shots after a playoff game). But the D5 IS better. Both in focusing and high ISO performance. Whether it is worth the price point is an individual decision only each of us can make. The D5 has made my easier so I can concentrate making photos.
