So I received my new Sigma 18-50 2.8 today, I was looking for a replacement fro my 18-200 that was 2.8 and a bonus was the macro as I love close ups of flowers. I think I am going to be happy, here are some test pics I took

    what do you think?

    my dogs

    at f4

    NIKON D300    ---    50mm    f/8.0    1/250s    ISO 200

    NIKON D300    ---    35mm    f/4.0    1/2500s    ISO 200

    NIKON D300    ---    35mm    f/4.0    1/2000s    ISO 200

    some flowers from my neighborhood

    NIKON D300    ---    46mm    f/2.8    1/1600s    ISO 200

    NIKON D300    ---    46mm    f/2.8    1/2500s    ISO 200

    NIKON D300    ---    50mm    f/2.8    1/800s    ISO 200

and this one not because it is a great pic but to show the sharpness

    NIKON D300    ---    46mm    f/2.8    1/1250s    ISO 200

Congrats, Lisa! I haven't even heard of this lins, but the results look pretty good. I especially like the macro shots.

I know I must have looked at 10 different options and then stumbled across this little known gem..I am pretty happy, it is not too big, seemingly takes nice pics and has a macro..oh and it is relatively inexpensive at around $439

    thanks for looking!

If it is the EX DG HSM Macro 2.8, it is not a 1:1 macro. Macro is 1:3 to ±1:5 as you go from 50 to 18. I haven't tried it as a macro, but it is a sweet lens.
  6. Great shots Lisa. It seems you have a decent copy of the lens.

I had the first version but found that I generally missed some reach at the long end and didn't use below f/4 that much so I traded it for a Nikkor 18-70. Both lenses gave/give me excellent results.

I have one of these lenses, although mine is not the HSM version. I told the wife what I wanted for Christmas then after I got it she told me she found a better deal on it. The reason, obviously, no HSM. Even without it, this lens focuses really fast on my D70.

I keep this on my camera most of the time and have loved it since the day I got it. Enjoy your new lens.

    Great lens for the price.

    Enjoy it.
