Iv been lusting for the Nikkor 500 8 AIS. I know it's old and slow but I for one have always like the donut bokkeh the the mirror lens provides. Any sample image's out there?

I used to own one of these. Here is a photo taken with it back in 1998 using an F4. I was using some fast slide film that wasn't a good choice, I think Kodachrome 200.

I sold it because I didn't use it enough, and it was worth quite a bit, almost a "collectable". I also got tired of the doughnuts.

You want more photos! They are not that good I'm afraid.

I got the lens in 1997, took it to Africa, then in 1998 I used it a bit in England, then I stopped using it and sold it in about 2005.

I tried it on the D70 I bought in 2005, and it was quite possible to get sharp hand held shots at 1/2000 sec in good light. Effective focal length 750mm. It would be much easier with a D300 or D700 as you would get the metering and could use higher ISOs.

One of the best things about the lens is that it is so small and incredibly light. It would not be easy to hand hold a 500mm conventional lens.

The lion photo above was done from a vehicle with it resting on a bean bag, it was in Tanzania. The three below were all using a tripod and in England.
