I’m thinking that Nikon May have low balled the initial estimate. In any case, only Nikon truly know the number and it sounds like marketing ploys to me.

There are a lot of people that have too much money, so it could be true, what really beats me is that people aren't buying the original NOCT instead it is another fabulous manual focus lens and supersharp at F1.2

For $8K USD, you could fly to Japan, spend a week there booking a comfy Airbnb, buy a minty F-mount 58mm 1.2 NOCT and then fly back home! Plus you wouldn't be charged tax since it would be a tourist purchase!
