Could someone please help me choose a Tc for my upcoming new purchase the Nikon 300PF. Wou toes the older Nikon Nikkor AF-S Teleconverter TC-14E II 1.4x (Mark2) Stack Up against the MkIII. I can pick up the Mk II at much less money?
    Cheers.

  2. The only reason I can see for getting the newer version is Nikon doesn't carry parts for older lens and I assume TCs. So, if the 2 breaks in a few years you may be out of luck.

I have a II that just isn't sharp on my 500 f4. The III is a noticable improvement. I've read thoughts from others that agree with my experience. YMMV.

  6. You'll want the III, Mike. I have both and the 300 f4 PF loves the III, the II?...not so much. It's gone.
My 500 f4 VR also agrees with the decision, so there ya go. :D

I'm using the TC14E-III with my 300/4E PF and you barely notice the quality hit. Ya gotta pixel peep to really see it. One of the better investments I've made as an accessory to my Nikon lenses.

  8. I just ordered a III and I have a II
From what I've read they are close on DX but the III is noticeably better on FX and with new e glass
I got it for my 500e although the II works pretty well on the 500e

  9. I doubt I will either but after spending what I did on the 500e I gotta know

  10. The III rocks pretty hard on the 300 f4 PF :D

  13. Photographylife seems the new one is a bit better on new lenses (2014 article.)

  14. I have both and can see no real world difference using a d500 or d4 with either the 500 f4 G or the 600 f4 G.

I don't have a 300pf so can't speak to that. However I wish I had not spent the money on the 1.4III.

To be honest, I think if you get a good copy, either one is good. If you get one that does't seem to like your particular lens, it doesn't matter which model it is.

  15. if I didn't have the 500e I wouldn't get a III but everyone seems to think the III is best on FX and/or e glass.

I have just now got home 11.30 PM out since early this morning. I cant believe the large and friendly response I got from all my friends here on the Café. I thank you all for your help. It looks like the Mk III is the way to go for the new Nikon glass.
    Cheers and thank you all.
