Looks good , John. Thanks for adding these.

I'm on my way to Hawaii where I expect to get lots of use from this lens.

They look impressive, Pa. Which is your opinion on the lens? Have you had any chance to compare it to 16-85/3.5-5.6?
Thanx.
I have done detailed comparisons with the old 16-85 and with a 24-120 on a D610. It's far better than the old 16-85: much sharper, better contrast and color rendition. The big surprise is that the 16-80 on a D7100 is sharper than the 24-120 on the D610. The D610 with 24-120 has been my travel combo for the past two years, but it's at home now in favor of the 16-80 and D7100 for my Hawaii trip.

Interesting. And a strong endorsement for the 16-80.

The D7100 hasn't the antialias filter, it seems sharper than the D610.
I think it'd be interesting a comparison between the 24-120 and the 16-80 on the D7100.

I have been traveling in Hawaii since August 21st, and will be here until September 10th. I'm using the D7100/16-80 combo for at least 90% of my photos here. With only a 13-inch laptop to edit on, I'm reluctant to post any more samples, but the pictures all look outstanding to me.

Quite the endorsement of this lens. If it were available back when I was considering DX vs. FX, I'd probably still be with DX.

This morning's sunrise on Kauai provided an opportunity to test the flare resistance of the lens...

I've never seen that reviewer's posts before, so I know nothing of his methods. In my tests, the corner sharpness was much better than either my old 16-85 on a D7100 or 24-120 f/4 on a D610. I'll try to do some more tests as time permits.

Thanks Jim. However those pictures are not 24 Mpix res files (I mean, I couldn't find full-res files :) )
They were downsized to 2048 pixels on the long side for posting. If you would like to select a few from that gallery I'll be happy to provide you with full-res jpegs or RAW files.

Thank you Jim for your kindness. Yesterday my trusted Nikon dealer e-mailed me that the first 16-80 samples arrived in the shop (finally!). In the next days I hope to have the possibility to test the lens :)
I'll use my D300, which does have a less demanding sensor than your D7200's.
Good, Riccardo. I'll be interested in your impressions.

Glad you like it, Riccardo. Those are excellent examples. Now you just need a D7200 to see what the lens can really do! But maybe you are waiting for the mythical D400. :D
