You guys really need to cease posting all these beautiful pictures taken with this crummy little consumer lens! Yer costing Nikon a fortune in lost revenue on 4 pound f2.8 giga-zooms. I sold mine a year ago to a friend who bought my D200 as well. I don't miss it in a gosh-i-wish-i-had-that-lens-back sorta way, but peeking at Lightroom...it's still, by a long margin, the most used lens in photos I've kept.
Keep 'em coming, some awesome color on this page!

From people to penguins, California to Cape Town, this is a very useful lens by virtue of its versatility, colours and sharpness. Its certainly is a very 'good' lens even if its does not make the grade of being 'great'. All these shots taken with this lens on my D200 over past year or so. Straight from camera, no PP exception reduction in size by ViewNX for web posting.

#1 Lens

The 18-200VR is my number one lens and is kept on my camera for quick use. My other lens are speciality lens for wildlife, sports or wide angle adventures. For photowalking around town and travel, this lens is fantastic. I just got back from a trip to Walt Disney World and I hope these images give you and others a good indication of what this lens can do. All taken hand held (thank you VR technology!!!).

For lighted night time scenes, I have successfully hand held this lens down to 1/4 of a second.

I went ahead and ordered the 18-200 VR just now from Adorama. I'll post some pics when I get it. Thanks to everyone who responded.

Good. And be wise: don`t be "wow" and don`t bash it. Just do photos. Prints are always great.

I used my lens for the first time yesterday and I noticed that after I took a shot, the lens would sort of make a clicking sound and the image would...delay showing on the screen....oh boy, I can't explain it. It doesn't happen to every frame.
Ok, the lens is used so this concerns me.
Other than that minor aggravation, I'm liking the lens.

I'm not sure what the delay on the screen means (and I'm not sure if that is even related to the lens), but the clicking might be related to the VR mechanism.

VR is activated when you half-press the shutter, though after a few seconds it turns off again. Turn off the VR feature on the lens and see if you still get a clicking sound.
