Hi all,

I recently acquired a D750 w/ the "kit" 24-120 f/4 VR. I haven't had a good opportunity to test the lens out as I just got it this past weekend.

With that said, I also own an older Nikon 35-70 f/2.8. I am considering dumping the 24-120 and picking up a 17-35 f/2.8 to complete my range. However, having the 24-120 seems like it could be a good travel lens, not having to swap out for the 35-70 if longer lengths are needed.

Those of you who have shot with the 24-120 on the D750, do you feel it is a worthy lens to keep or am I thinking correctly in going for the 17-35, 35-70 combo? I mainly shoot landscapes if that means anything.

The 24-120 is a very versatile lens and has a great range. The rap on it is it gets a bit soft at the 120mm end, but I'm fine with it. Nano crystal coating really helps with microcontrast and makes images pop.

For wide angle... The 17-35 is an older model and has quite a hefty price premium new. There are other less expensive options if you want to go wide. From Nikon there's new 20mm f/1.8g is one of the best wide primes out there - very popular lens sometimes hard to find in stock. 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5g is a great zoom thats lightweight and lightweight on your pocketbook. Both of these lenses readily take filters which is a plus.

There are also very solid third party lenses out there - example the Tokina 16-28 f/2.8 gives you the wide aperture and runs ~$600 new. Tamron 15-30 f/2.8 (~$1200) goes really wide and is image stabilized to boot - great bonus for interior shots (think museums where tripods are not allowed, etc...). Sigma 24-35 f/2 is f/2. Samyang (aka Rokinon in the US) 14mm f/2.8 is a wicked sharp manual focus option if you want really wide. They also have a 12mm fisheye.

I shoot a lot of events with the 24-120 on both my D700 and D810. I like it for the range, very convenient and F4 is not too slow

The last image reminds me of paintings by Frederick J. Waugh (American marine painter), which is meant as a compliment!
