I was looking for a review of this lens on your site and only saw the 2.8 Pre-AI and the AIS as far as MF lenses go, unless I missed something.

I have the opportunity to purchase a new-old stock 28mm 2.8 AI rather inexpensively and was wondering if you have an opinion of it as compared to the AIS version?

Would this be a 7 elements in 7 groups vs the 8 in 8 that they went to in the AIS and the only real difference be a bit lighter weight and a bit longer close focus minimum distance?

This lens would be used on a D2X.

    Many Thanks,

I'd advise against it. Only the AIS version (8/8 design, 0.2 m close focus) is really good.
