...I see great images like this taken with the D500 and it really makes me wonder if the D500 I had was just a very poor copy of the D500???? I never got images that nice using ISO above 1600!...
I've really been happy with the D500. I was underwhelmed at first but it grew on me. I've found the ISO/noise performance to be much better in practice than I expected based on reviews by the various test labs. I rarely shoot auto anything but under conditions that I'm comfortable using auto exposure I don't hesitate to use auto ISO on the D500.

Well, glad it works for you. I used the D500 in Kenya, in good light. I just found that when there was noise, the noise was extremely aggressive and very hard to tame in post. Like I said, maybe it was just the D500 body that I had, and not an indication of general IQ from the D500.
