If this thread already exists.....mea culpa!

I've succumbed to NAS after all the fuss about this lens. (Thanks, Ann and others for luring me into another purchase! LOL!)

I got mine today. Took one quick shot @ f4.......IQ and bokeh look really good! Hopefully tomorrow will be nice and I can post some photos!

This was the 300 PF with TC-14 III on my D800E cropped to DX size.

That looks really nice. What exposure settings?

  4. Congrats! I think you'll like it.

Here is a 100% crop (D700) from a picture of an Airbus 330, doing a go around. The exif is attached.

The aperture shows 7.1 with the TC and it was 1/4000 at ISO 500.

Excellent choice, Karen. Congratulations. My 1.4 lives on my 300/4PF it and only comes off for the 1.7. Not being quite at the same level of competence as Ann, the 2.0 III does not work for me.

  7. Congrats Karen, this lens is my next purchase.

  8. I've already posted some images from this lens elsewhere on the forum and am loving it. However whilst by TC1.4ii is as sharp as a pin on my 70-200 f/4, it seems a little soft on the 300 f/4 & D7200 even after an AF fine tune. I confess I haven't tried it yet on the 810 but the idea was to use the setup on a DX camera for the extra reach. I've heard that the mark iii is an improvement....but I've heard other comments to the contrary! I don't want to have to invest in a Mark iii if I don't have to!

What is the Mark iii ????

  10. I believe he was referring to the Canon body Mark 3.

  11. TC 1.4 II is the older version.

TC 1.4 III is the newest.

First image with the 300 PF....on the D500. It was very windy and the birdies were gone....so this cherub became my target! Guess I didn't need such a fast shutter speed! LOL!

Here are a couple shots taken at f/4 (per a request in another thread). The crane image was cropped slightly (20% maybe) and the Osprey image was about a 50% crop (I mostly used a 500/4 for this bird).

Great images! The sharpness of the crane's head is especially nice. I'm not seeing terrible bokeh in the OOF areas when using this lens.

Thanks Karen. I have a couple more images of the crane and the bokeh is a bit busier and more distracting, but I think it just demonstrates that to some extent bokeh is what we make of it when we shoot the image. I do love the sharpness of this little lens!! I was also remiss in stating that both images were taken with a D810.

I'm looking forward to more of your shots with this lens....The cherub shot looks nice and sharp on your D500!!! I hope you got your 500Vr to play nice with the D500 too!

  19. Correct - sorry for causing confusion with 'mark'. Any thoughts anyone?

Great images as well as nice and sharp!
    What's a 'Canon'....
    ;)
