Impressive images Randy

I am thinking about obtaining one early next year. I currently have the 200-400. Do you often miss the flexibility of a zoom in that range ?

Well ok, then I will begin start missing the zoom ability within a couple of weeks from now because I ordered a brand new 400 2.8 vr yesterday :smile:

sweet, you will be amazed

some stuff to consider (and some not to maybe)

1. lenscoat: mixed feelings. I like most of it but the part that goes on the hoods is peeling back from where the hoods connect
2. rrs foot - awesome
3. RRS' new monopod head - even better
4. gitzo monopod - perfect
5. thinktank raincoat - nice in landscape mode, almost useless in portrait mode

I'm ordering a gitzo tripod and wimberly in a few weeks for MI6 in florida

Funny how I thought 8K was alot but when you add in the xtras it tops 10k easy

Hi Randy,

Thanks for your quick reply.

I have ordered the RSS replacement lens foot and MH-01 (currently have the 'old' 3232 on a Manfrotto monopod)
The Wimberley head II will follow next week
I am even considering a 55x series Gitzo for the Wimberley (now have a 35x series)

So let the spring begin (okay a bit early perhaps)

Besides, do you perhaps know what CPL will fit in the 400 ? I now have the 1 (200-400 f4) and the 3 (200 f2) It would be nice if any of them would fit

Very nice indeed. I really need to make up my mind on what to get. I may rent/borrow one and use it with the TC20EII and see what kind of results I get. I think the 400 with TCs would offer a lot more flexibility that a 500 or 600mm prime. I'm just concerned about sharpness and IQ.

you know my philosopghy....buy em all, sort em out and sell the ones you don't like:smile:
the 400vr has a huge advantage over the 500 and 600 and that's f2.8 but i'll get a 600 this year anyway (i actually don't want a 500)

You will love the 1.4 on the 400 Randy! it works wonderful:biggrin:the 1.7 works pretty darn good also.
Wasn't crazy about the background on this shot but when its slow you take what you can get:smile:
