I know there are a few scattered threads about this beautiful lens, and I know people use various nomenclatures for it. So, I tried to put the two more common ones in the title (to facilitate future searches! :p ).

There are tons of threads about the 85/1.4 :):), and of course, the Noct has it's fan club. Let's give this lens a good showing (Ai or AiS). :D :D

Randy, Fritz, Dude.............I know y'all have a few floating around, mind posting again?? :D :D

I think all of the AIS versions have 9 blades, so as long as you trust it's AIS, then you're good. Of course, you can always check serial numbers here:

Mine just arrived today, it is AiS (9 blade). Now I realize that bright sun is not what f/1.2 is designed for, but hey.....it was my first day and I "had" to shoot. :p

At f/1.2

so there is only 1 that is AI-S ?
what is the diff between the AI and the AI-S (and what do the acronyms stand for) ?
thx
There is an earlier version (Ai) and a later (AiS). Ai, I believe, stands for "Auto indexing," though what that means........I haven't the foggiest. The "s" versions are newer (in any lens), and I'm not sure what "s" means.

The Ai version has 7 blades, the AiS has 9.

You can buy them brand new and in good nick from that site-that-should-remain-nameless - seller 'matsuiyastore' often has stock. Much cheaper than retail here in UK.

Does the 55mm f/1.2 count in this thread too?
