I've just picked up a mint one of these. Anyone got any shots with it to keep me busy until it arrives?

I have the pre-AF version of this lens (the Series E 70-210/4) which has become my primary grandstand lens at races, due to being much easier to handle than my ancient 85-250/4-4.5. (It has a slightly cooler color rendition than the aforementioned big Nikkor, but weighs about 25% of the older piece of glass.)

It also provides higher quality with my TC-16A teleconverter than the pre-AI 85-250 does:

I'm shooting a couple tonight for their "pre-wedding" photos for next week. I'll put some up when I get a chance.

Loving it - the second time around

I recently picked up a mint 70-210 AF F4 myself about a month ago - my second opportunity with this lens.

I owned one a few years back, only to give up on it for being too slow to focus and having too slow of a max aperture. I sold it in favor of an 80-200 f2.8, then a 80-200 AF-S, and then a 70-200VR, then back to a 80-200 AF-S. Recently, I realized aside from needing the fast AF and wanting the extra stop for better subject isolation when shooting my daughter's soccer season, I hardly ever used any of my f2.8 versions due to their heavy weight and bulky size. I wouldn't have even thought about taking any of the f2.8 versions out to a theme park with the kids. Not to mention the hefty amount of cash being tied up, just sitting in my closet most of the year.

So, I decided to give the 70-210 F4 another try and came across a mint, like new copy. It's so light and easy to handle, I decided to take it and a Nikon 20-35 F2.8 as my 2-lens kit on a recent trip to Legoland and Seaworld. I wouldn't have thought I'd use that range much at a theme park, but there's no way I could have gotten some of my shots with my normal 24-70 walk-around lens.

I've always wished Nikon would make a a light-weight, less expensive alternative to the 80-200 AF-S and 70-200VR - just like Canon's 70-200 F4L. For now, it's either this 20+ year old 70-210 F4 or perhaps, the Nikon 70-300VR.

Thanks all - looks good.

I've already got the 70-300 VR and am thinking of 'downgrading' to the 70-210 f4 to add a bit more dosh to the 70-200 f2.8 VR fund.
