I was surprised to see we do not have a 800mm E thread and I know several members have the lens here is my contribution to get this started.

Nice set. Some of the detail is ashtonishing but I suppose that’s what it’s for. Are these with the converter?
What’s the typical subject distance for managing sufficient DoF.

Wonderful shots. As Randy says " the reddish looks great"

I would love a lens like the Nikkor 800mm but I would have to sell a kidney....

Cheers,

Nice stuff, exactly why I have an 800mm lens. There are times and places where the 800 mm focal length is requisite. But mine is the Sigma 800mm DG EX HSM. I did not have a kidney I could spare, so I went the route of the Sigma and haven't looked back. As this thread is devoted to the Nikon model I won't post any images herein.

Everyone, thanks the comments are all appreciated.
None of these are with the TC1.25 mounted. The nearest shots here the Bittern, Green Heron and Jay were no more than 35 feet. Inside 50 feet, on most birds, a profile shot is needed to keep from loosing a lot of DoF. BIF shots typically will have soft wing tips on larger birds even at f7.1.

That reddish looks great
Thanks Randy, I compared this bird with the Reddish you posted from MI and the irregularity on the right portion of the bill seems to be the same. I am guilty of recycling your bird! :)

Fortunately, I still have both kidneys. No kids here and since if I tried to take the money with me when I pass on, the family would just place a check in the casket. So I spent the cash.

Yes, 800mm is at times needed especially with birds. I consider 800mm to be sweet spot for birding. Fortunately, 800 can be acquired a number of ways at a significantly lower cost. 600mm + TC1.4III, 500mm + TC1.7II and the 400mm + TC2.0III all get you in the neighborhood at a good savings especially if one goes for a used "G" version of one of those lenses.

Nice set Roy - I really like the DIF (ducks in flight ) shot.
Thanks, I got lucky with that shot in getting both sets of wings in synch and have the eyes of both birds reasonably sharp.
