Nikon D3 , 910 speedlight corded flash not working

Sep 18, 2020

My first post, and a bit of a newbie to flash....

I have a D3 with an SB910 flash.

I have the sekonic light meter (L558) and the sekonic corded lead to trigger the flash for measuring the flash output and setting the correct exposure in manual control.

When the flash is mounted in the hotshoe, with both the flash and camera turned on, the flash will work fine.

Plugging the sekonic lead into the lightmeter and the flash, I cannot trigger the flash to fire.

If I remove the flash from the hotshoe, and still have the light meter and flash connected (corded), then I can fire the flash.

I did the same with my F5, flash in hotshoe, everything on etc, and I can fire the flash with the corded light meter.

So, the flash is ok, the F5 is ok, the D3 will fire the flash if if is mounted in the hotshoe without the corded meter being active,

Any advice appreciated.
