Nikon GP-1 GPS unit

the removable cable is a good idea. GP-1 won't be cheap than any other product in the market to my guess. Is a tag of Nikon that so important? Or the price decides for everything?

I'm not too concern with the Nikon branding for the GPS and more of the price.

However, Solmeta and Dawntech is also waiting for the Nikon GPS GP-1 to come out for use with the D90 in November.

I've been Geotagging with my mobile phone (with Sporttracker), its pretty cool, I can even see where I walked for my recent Colorado trip (see https://www.nikoncafe.com/vforums/showthread.php?t=192331)

Example (a short hike I did)

You can click on the - or + to get a satellite view and zoom in!! I can embedd my GPS into my EXIF via Export.

I find the external units overpriced, and clunky. It won't be long before we have GPS chips embedded I suspect.

I certainly wouldn't pay for a Nikon branded unit when I can do this and more with a GPS phone personally.

Unfortunately, the Nikon GPS GP-1 uses the straight connector to connect it to the camera instead of an L connector.

This will hinder the end user to use the camera.

You might want to look at the AMOD GPS Tracker and software for Macintosh that I wrote up here on the Cafe:
https://www.nikoncafe.com/vforums/showthread.php?t=17037

Works with all cameras in post processing. No connection to the camera. Under $70.

Thanks, Bob!
The link you provided didn't work so used the search to find it, just missed the 8 at the end:

I already have a couple GPS units. Maybe I'll use the smaller one I have and save the track data that way for now and use the GPSPhotoLinker to convert. If that gets clunky, I'll try the one you are using -- the price is definitely right!

OOPS!, thanks for checking, I just fixed the link.

You will probably also need the GPS Babel software to convert your tracks from whatever format your GPS unit(s) use to the XML format needed by GPS Photo Linker. It looks like the GPS Babel can convert to and from about any formats needed.

I know the developer through another site, glad to see his work useful for other applications!

Thanks again, Bob.

Anyway, back to the topic!

On the D90, Nikon has changed the circular 10 pin input to a tip styled input.

OK, still no sign of this thing in a U.S. store. I called B&H today. The gentleman who took my call said it's in their computer, but no price info and no date when it'll arrive.

I'm curious as to what source provided the product date and retail price here. None of the retailers I've called have similar information. I'm ready to buy something and would prefer to get the Nikon unit, but I detest vaporware. Is this thing going to ship or not?

Thanks for the link. I searched B&H and Adorama yesterday and couldn't get a hit.
