D40 did it for Nikon.
Lets hope this is a sign of things to come....
A few more days for an announcement........ hopefully.
That camera is worth every penny, or yen as it may be.
I suspected something like this. I started to notice the view counts at SLRgear. The number of views for some of the new lens were very high. The 18-135 has 136,000 hits in one year. The view rate on the 70-300 is high too.
That is great.
This is good news! Canon will run out of business if they don't release something good. They still don't have an equivalent to the 18-200VR.
This is very good news for Nikon.
It took the iPod—a product that most professional Mac users saw little use for—to reignite Apple's success in the marketplace.
Maybe the D40 will be the camera that creates a new generation of Nikonians. It might be hard to see it now, but the D40's success could very well benefit professional Nikon users, not just consumers. After all, high volume on a profitable product means more mindshare and more dollars that can go toward R&D.
If Nikon goes anywhere anytime soon, a good bet is that it will be upward. ;-)
