Need some help from You, guys .........

within the next 2 or 3 weeks I am looking for the TC -20 E III , to buy in Germany ,the Netherlands or in Belgium.
The prices in Europe are very high ( 460-560 € = 658-801 US Dollar ).
Now my question : do you know of any differences in build quality or optical quality between the TC`s 20III ? .
Are there " good" and "bad" examples ?
Your help is much appreciated !

^ Sadly, there IS sample variation with the TC-20E III (any TC for that matter) :frown:
I tried 3 copies, the latter being the best...all things being equal. If you can try one
before you buy or perhaps rent one and see if it suits your needs. I liked it "close in"
but found smearing of feather details unacceptable with BIF over 30 meters. The bokeh
was all over the place. Lenses used were 200 f2 VR/300 f2.8 VR and the 70-200 f2.8 VR II
on FX/DX. FWIW I enjoy impeccable long lens technique, handheld. Wish you good luck trackin'
down one you're happy with. Tschüss, Will

Joergen, build quality is excellent as it should be for the price. As Will mentioned there might be sample variation which could affect image quality. I bought mine solely for use on a Nikkor 70-200mm VR II, and with that particular lens it its awesome from 70mm to 200mm. It's on a DX body so that could be a factor in my favor.
If you aren't happy with it take it back.

The 2x TCIII is a superb TC. I use it extensively on my 300 f2.8 VRII and 70-200 f2.8 VRII on both my D700 and D7000 and I couldn't be happier with the results. The thing is, if you're travelling and don't want to take anything bigger than the 70-200 f2.8 VRII, then TC's are indispensible. Incredible sharpness and resolution Lance! You also have a wonderful lens collection! I see you have learned to stay away from the aftermarket lenses also!
