JJC have released a thumb grip. They are not something I've used with my Fuji cameras, but many photographers love using them.

At work we import finished goods and materials, mostly via sea freight, delivery times have increased by 4~6weeks on average since the pandemic started.

There must be a surplus of stock downunder. Currently Nikon Z bodies and lenses are 15% off, plus a cashback. The best deal going now is the Z6 II body which is 25% off plus $200 cashback.

The Z fc with 28mm lens along with the other Z fc combinations are also discounted and showing in stock.

Maybe they're dumping them in Australia because they can't get them ashore in the U.S.

Yes, had the mechanical shutter active at the time.

I did have to do some cleanup. You can see some haze around the moonshot I took, and it bloomed quite a bit. I did a litle bit of Lightroom processing to "dehaze", a little clarity boost and some generous contrast.
You might have used the electronic front-curtain shutter (EFCS)..... I just remember that the Z fc does not allow some lenses (like 16-50mm) to choose MECHANICAL SHUTTER option --- only AUTO option, so the camera automatically chooses between Mech or EFCS. I do not know if the 300/4 + FTZ allows you to set MECHANICAL.

It is mechanical. The 300 + FTZ has all shutter modes available.

In my experience shutter vibration can become an issue with exposures less than 1/100”, especially around 1/4”. Maybe IBIS can partially compensate for shutter vibration, although I’ve not seen that discussed anywhere.

That is on a camera by camera basis. Each one has a certain range where it is possible to experience shutter shock.

A lot goes into it, such as the shutter dampening mechanism, body weight, the lens used.

Today I managed 720 shots from one battery and it still had power left. Although I'm not sure how much as the charger supplied doesn't have a display on it. I'm not sure how accurate the battery level indicator is in the camera, and is not something I generally check as I have a spare battery in my pocket.

I've now put the 105mm macro on the Z fc and will check out some of the native orchids which are in flower. I would usually use a different camera system and take focus stacks when photographing native orchids, but tomorrow is going to be a happy snap wander around the reserve day.

A few from this morning

Obviously. Some cameras have a better damped shutter, and mirror (when present), longer lenses amplify vibration etc. But in my experience with a wide range of cameras, and lenses, that’s the sort of range where you need to take care. You can look at studies that plot the vibrational frequencies, they all come to similar conclusions eg

https://www.sonyalpharumors.com/the-shutter-vibration-issue-explained-by-joseph-holmes/

I once resorted to placing a bean bag on the lens to stop it ringing, there was no mirror lock up on that camera.

Finally got around to putting the Tamron 70-200/2.8 G2 on the FTZ...just because.

Animal EYE AF was active.

My wife volunteered me to help out at a womens conference tomorrow. Will be doing some pics of the attendees at a background in groups, speakers and some of the activities.

Going to Z6 and Zfc the whole thing. See how it all goes.

Think I’m going to go 24/1.8 and 50/1.8 on the Z6 and then the Tamron 70-200/2.8 G2 on the Zfc. Going to take the D500 as backup in case I run into any AF issues with the Z. Lot of backlighting during the presentation, so want to be prepared.

Should be a good test of the AF system. Will see how face/eye detect fair. Very low stress event so lends itself well to experimenting.

I think they will appreciate the quieter operation of the mirrorless too during the speaking parts.

I had a fun morning wandering through one of our local reserves. The weather was cool, particularly for Spring, at least I was the only one in the particular area of the reserve. It was nice and peaceful. These snaps were taken with the Z fc and 105mm Z macro lens. I would usually do focus stacks for these subjects. The weather was calm so I could've got some nice photos. This morning was about getting out and about and not worry about photos. I'm going to another reserve tomorrow to check on a few other varieties.

These are all handheld, using auto focus.

#1 Orange-tip Fingers (Caladenia aurantiaca) It was these orchids I wanted to check. They are not very common in our area, and only flower for a few days. However, it's a matter of checking them to see if they are in flower regularly around this time of the year for the next week or two otherwise you will miss them for the season. I had planned on going mid next week, luckily I went today, they may not be there on Wednesday.

It was a lovely Spring morning and I walked nearly 10km around a local reserve checking the progress of native orchids. Today I took 670 images with the Z fc, and the battery indicator in the camera was still showing it full. I’m guessing it’s not very accurate, and one of the reasons I don't rely on them.

The first two orchids were the ones I was checking on, I only saw one of each in flower. I'm sure there will be more by next weekend. The Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos were a bonus. Goes to show how big they are, and also how close I was. These were taken with the 105mm macro. Although both images are cropped.

There were plenty of orchids in flower, these are only a sample. I also checked out the progress of the Duck Orchids and saw a few in bud. Another few weeks and they will also start flowering.

#1 White Fingers (Caladenia catenata) These are beautiful orchids and I look forward to them flowering each season.

#7 Red-beaks (Pyrorchis nigricans) This was the first time I'd seen these in flower at this particular reserve. They are near to being finished for this season.

#8 Waxlip Orchid (Caladenia major) There were hundreds of these in various sizes and shades of purple in flower today. I was hunting for white ones, but had no luck. This is a pair of very light coloured ones.
