My first trip to NNWR since they completed the new boardwalk (and removed miles of dikes to let Puget Sound back in).

The boardwalk is really nice, and long.

I saw one eagle in a nest, great blue herons, northern shovelers, coots, pintails, american wigeons.

Anyway, here are a few shots.

Northern Pintail.

American Coot. Was on the shadow side of these birds however.

A 360 degree pano from the end of the boardwalk. The tide was out. Puget Sound on the right (and a little bit on the left).

Did I mention the boardwalk is long!

Thanks. It should get better with time as the birds have new real estate to use.

Ron thanks for showing the pano. I keep meaning to go there but as of yet have not. You have some very nice images.
Thanks Jim. I did notice the place is really popular on a sunny day. Cars had filled up the two parking lots and were spilling back up the access road when I left (around 1:00 pm).

Nice ones Ron. It will be interesting to see what affect removing the dikes will have on the wildlife, when the state did the same thing up north, it totally screwed up the SEO territory.
Hi Louie. So far the few birds were not a bit shy about the area. Low tide kept them way beyond my short lens. 70-200 + 1.7 TC was not enough.

SEO?

Looks like a pretty cool place. Anywhere I could see a larger file of the pano?
This is the largest version (other than the source) that my host service will display. The original is made up of 15 shots stitched with CS5.

Will be moving back to the Great PNW in 2012... look forward to meeting some of you.
My favorite hangout is the Hoods Canal, Lake Cushman and that area.
