with Photoshop Elements 4 (on mac).
comments welcome and thanks in advance. izzy:
Dave, AFAIK, Photoshop 4 had no RAW support. Do you mean ACR 4 that comes with Photoshop CS3? I believe that the earliest version of Photoshop that would support D40 NEF files is CS2 with version 3.7 of ACR (judging from this page on the Adobe site).
And welcome to the Cafe!
Judging by his signature, I'd guess he means Elements 4. Don't quote me, though.
Dave, have a look at our ACR reference. You probably have to download a newer version of ACR from Adobe.
Hope it helps.
its a challenge alright...... new to Elements, new to Nikon DSLR and new to mac..... its like eating a whale..... got to be done in little pieces.
not regretting it though.
On my MacBook
i note iPhoto reads and opens NEF files...... i can EXPORT the NEF as NEF and then PREVIEW opens them...... PREVIEW then offers this.....
are any of these offered formats a means of getting RAW?
thank you green eyes
downloaded the adobe RAW converter and changed the NEF files in Picture Project to DNG.
from elements clicked on a new DNG and bingo!
i got the screen to custom white balance which i wasn't getting before.
i can now follow my tutorial in this months DVD from 'Digital Photo' magazine which started all this.
i'll play later..... must gets some more NEFs before the rain comes down.
thanks again to all.
i've had some mysterious adventures since.
i relised i had not followed tutiki properly but had installed the adobe DNG converter only. so i went back and installed Camera Raw 4.1.
but is it a proper install as i don't get the recognised ACR screen above but this......????
it looks like a new ACR screen? what is for certain is its not the same as the one on my DVD tutorial i've been trying to follow.
edit: i am so thick..... this new ACR screen is so much better..... the slidders 'fill lights' and 'blacks' are just brillient..... don't seem to know when warnings 'shadow-highlight clipping' buttons are selected or not yet..... stupid is off to play somemore now and thanks tutiki.
hmmm.... here's the same NEF opened 2 different ways
the old adobe way
the new way
spot the difference.
