I am trialing Capture NX and have a wierd problem with IPTC annotations.

iVIEW and Photomechanic is used to add IPTC data to a NEF data.

When I edit a NEF file with NX and do a File->save (or Save as JPG) all the IPTC data is lost.

The same occurs when I do a "save as" a JPG file.

If I edit the NEF IPTC data in NX and save nothing is lost.

Any suggestions?

I have reported this to Nikon and got the strangest of answers. I am formulating my response. Seems Nikon believes "Non-Destructive" Imaging editing refers only to the image itself. Not the rest of the data.

Warning, if you have Exif, or IPTC data in your image, do not use NX if the data is important to you. I realize this is a broad statement, however one should fully test a copy of your files prior to fully utilizing this program.

I looked into this more and the issue is with NX and when it asks for the "Please enter the date in the format mm/dd/yyyy" and if you don't change, it eliminates the IPTC info.

Now my edit workflow has to change the created date before saving.

UPDATE: 11 Aug
I had reported the bug to Nikon 1 Aug and just got response below.
I am the Senior Technical Support/Quality Assurance Specialist for Nikon USA.

I am also handling all of the Capture NX issues.

This bug is a known issue and has been reported to Software Development.

I suggest you do not use Capture NX if the IPTC data requires editing.

Thanks for using Nikon products

I guess that makes NX useless.

It's been reported in a couple of places. It's exceedingly problematic as IPTC is "supposed" to be universal. I sincerely hope NIK fixes this in the soon to be coming update.
