With no travel for the foreseeable future I've been going through some files from past trips. I was able to capture several species of birds during our 2016 trip to NZ. Figured I'd post a few.

These guys are listed in some birding guides as "New Zealand Dotterel" while eBirds lists them as "Red Breasted Dotterel". Whatever...

Edit: Not sure why the EXIF isn't showing up. These were all shot with D7200/AF-S 80-400.

1) A female I think.

2) A littlun

3) Mother and chick. Different birds in a different spot. This was shot in an area where there were several prominent signs posted that it was a breeding area and no pets were allowed. People were walking dogs off leash all over the place.

Great set

The birds in flight are sensational!
Thanks, Richard. Not sure how I tracked those guys with the D7200 and single point focus. I'm definitely out of practice these days.
Great idea for a thread, Dan! #2 is soooo cute and the BIF's are enjoyable!
Glad you enjoyed them, Karen.
VG. Loves the cute. Chicks and flying ones too.
Thanks, Allan.
A very interesting bird, and very well photographed.
Thanks, Jim.

this is a great set as well. Unfortunately these little guys nest in dunes and on the foreshore. Even though signs might be posted, some people with dogs sometimes think they own the place. Some of our flightless birds and young are dealt to by "pets" - cats as well as dogs (and stoats and weezils and opossums).
