Obnoxious weed I think. At least it was not planted in the field behind my place. Fairly large, on a stem around a foot high.

Anyway, plucked and focus stacked, around 40 images. The second shot is close to 100% crop from the lower left clump.

Z7 using focus shift and Helicon Focus.

1 The flower(s).

I knew I'd seen this before but the name didn't come out of deep brain hibernation for about 30 min. I just tried the wildflowersearch and it did come up with the right species among about 100 other hits.
That's been my experience too. I have been using it to check out my guesses rather than actually keying out plants. The links have been interesting in several cases.

what is the leaf like? yarrow? Nice job!
Thanks. Leaf is a small skinny thing, hardly worth calling a leaf.

Actually, the #2 crop is the least obnoxious! Very interesting weed!
They are sprinkled around the gully behind me. First year I have seen this many.

I'm fairly sure that's queen anne's lace, Daucus carota . It's not native to N. America.
Thanks Larry. that looks like it.

Not the easiest for a novice to use, but fairly extensive: https://wildflowersearch.org
Thanks Nick. It comes up on the first page of the site. Bookmarked.
