This will be my first prime challenge. To put myself completely outside of my comfort zone I am choosing my (new to me) Nikkor 35/2 which I just picked up yesterday  . I am hoping to post 7 days/week and shoot the majority, if not all, wide open.

I have not posted much up to this point so this should be an interesting learning experience...
  2. Well, Mark, you have picked a challenge. I'm also shooting the 35/2 because, well, it is my least favorite prime and I really want to appreciate it more.

Have fun and drop by the thread occassionally to compare notes.
  3. Heh, I did the January with the 50/1.4 wide open. It was great fun! Waiting for your shots...

I got stuck at work tonight so not a lot of time for shooting today. My 8 year old and I wondered about the yard and, unfortunately, it looks like I am starting this challenge off with a flower pic.

Reversed 35/2 (is that legal for the challenge?)

End of the line for this guy. Thanks for helping out our yard all summer!

I like your photo buddy! Nice image. Cute kid - looks like he likes to have fun.
  7. Lovely flowers, especially for this time of year. Handsome helper too.
  8. Wow. Your "out takes" are excellent!
  9. The second outtake is my favorite, but they are all great.
  10. What's wrong with starting off with flower shots?
I like number one. I prefer number three, however, for it's clear lines, reduced number of colours, and nicely blurred background.
  11. Mark, that's a great bunch of flower pics....real good use of the 35, I think. The reverse use is new to me (on this lens)...nice. And you'r son looks like a delight. Good start!

Thanks for all the comments folks.

Fall is definitely here in the midwest. What better way to celebrate out in the Chicago suburbs than watching the Cubs lose again, err, I mean football. American football!

Love the day one series, very good use of the 35/2. Makes me miss the 1:4 reproduction ratio I gave up to get the 30/1.4
  17. Patriotic shirts on the boys. Very nice shot. You have the same moody skies as I do in Ohio.
  18. Patriotic colors.

Now that I see the photo, it's easy to make suggestions.

I think I would've tried to get the sky as a background for all three heads, have them look the same direction and hold their arms the same way.

  19. ha! that's great!
Really enjoyed the flower shots as well.

Yea, if I had posed the shot I would have made it a little more symmetrical. I just thought it was funny to see them standing there, in that order, before practice. I also would not normally have shot this at f/2 and 1/2000:eek:
