I tried the E-M1 II with the 12-40mm lens over the weekend. I'm quite impressed with it's close focus abilities

When I transitioned to M4/3, the 12-40 f2.8 was the 1st lens I got, and it has never disappointed me.

It is a spectacular lens, no doubt about it. Not only is it a close focuser, but it resolves well, sharp even at f/2.8 and the manual focus clutch is great for when you need it.

My only issue with it was the all metal body. When shooting in cold and no gloves, it can get to you quickly. Other than that, one of the best f/2.8 zoom lenses on the market today on any lens mount.

The 12-40 2.8 is the reason I hold onto my E-M1. They are just perfect together and really make for a nice all around do anything photography combination. The 12-40 never felt like it sat right on any of the other MU43 bodies I've owned.
