  3. C&C — I'd like to see the jockeys face and the way the horses rear foot is planted, looks awkward. Otherwise, the color is perfect and it's nice and sharp. Do you shoot a sequence or one shot at a time?

    The bottom two are perfect!

  4. Great shots Mike. I always like your shots from the track.

In addition to the fact that they're great shots with great color, the musculature in the horse in image #1 is amazing. That is one super strong animal!

    Love them!

What AF modes were you using?
  7. Thanks snap.

Yes, this horse does appear rather awkward. I usually shoot a burst of about 4 or 5.

    Thanks TMR.

I am very critical of how a camera resolves horse flesh, re: detailed musculature. This is one area that the D3 shines. Love it.

    indeed. Thanks much.

    Thank you

C-AF. Set to release on 'focus' only. 9 point dynamic.

Nice stuff, tell me however do you have a photo of a horse with all four legs off the ground?
  10. Those are gorgeous. I really like the 80-200 AF-S. Here's one shot wide open from my favorite testing grounds -- Mission San Juan Bautista -- shot in the worst time of the day.

    Camera: D700
    Lens: 80-200/2.8 AF-S

    ISO200, 200mm, 1/5000s, f/2.8

  11. I believe I have a photo with all 12 off the ground...3 horses.

    real nice & thanks.

Agreed. I find this to be nicest of Nikon's 70/80-200's.

Nice but I'd like to see less DOF. Open up the lens to blur the background more.
  13. 12 off the ground

Shot this with my old Sigma SD10 a year or two ago.

  14. Thanks.

Sometimes when you are shooting at an angle, 2.8 is not enough field.

But I am going to gamble a bit next time anyway.
