I ran across this on Flickr. There is a Flickr group called "Field Guide: Birds of the World" where members tag their Flickr photos with the common and Latin names of each species. Identifications are reviewed and approved and there is a forum for ID'ing unknown species. The main group pool page is: http://flickr.com/groups/birdguide/ Of particular interest is this forum topic: http://flickr.com/groups/birdguide/discuss/45622/ Which is a "Hyperlink List by common name; find all photos of a species here" which contains hundreds of species in alphabetical order by common name. Each name is a hyperlink to all group photos tagged with that common name. For example, Mallards (Anas platyrhynchos) is linked to 52 photos: http://www.flickr.com/groups/birdguide/pool/tags/Mallard Since many of the bird photos here are of superb quality and Flickr memberships are free (with a few limitations or $25 for a Pro account with very few limits), I thought some of the Cafe members might be intrested in participating. If nothing else, it is a good place to bookmark if you are trying to make a bird ID...
I thought it was kinda neat. Even if the Cafe'ers don't participate, it is a good reference to bookmark as a way to double-check an ID.
