Randy was kind enough to take me out on Lake Norman this past Wednesday.

Weather was solid clouds and light was dim and flat. Even so, it was a spectacular day spent shooting with Randy, Cindy and Bill.

This may not compare to the superb images Randy and others post here, but this one is MINE! Hopefully there will be many more.

Very good shot technically and composition. Well done. The EXIF data shows that you were in aperture priority but my EXIF reader does not tell what the aperture is. There is some distance between the birds and both are in sharp focus so I was wondering what aperture you were shooting at.

Guntersville Lake here in North AL has many active Osprey nest now.

Thanks for the comments, Jerry!

The bird on the nest is just a little soft...I was so focused on the one flying in! LOL!

I shot this using the D800 in 1.2 mode with my 300/2.8 VR1, hand held. The settings were 1/1600 @ f6.3, +0.67 compensation (and another .3 in raw processing!), ISO 400.

Super shot, the composition is terrific.

Thanks, Louis! I was really happy with the wing position, the fish and the mate in the nest. It just all came together!

Appreciate the comment, Geof!

Excellent work, Karen, good job...!

William, I really appreciate the encouragement! I went from the 24-120/f4 in Croatia to hand holding the 300/2.8 on a boat....this was my first time using the 300/2.8!

Very nice indeed. Glad you had a good outing with Randy and the others.

Bless you for commenting, Jim! Randy was quite nice and patient with me!

What the heck is wrong with that??? WAY better than Randy's

He said you had fun in spite of the dark gray conditions. I'd like to see your shots of that lake on a nicely lit morning someday.

Thanks so much, Bobby! I sure felt the pressure of shooting with the Osprey Master! LOL!

the more I look at it. wow... pretty amazing capture for sure.

Thank you so much! I figured if I kept shooting, perhaps I get at least one good shot in focus! LOL! I started the day just practicing tracking and focusing! Small goals for a newbie!

Speachless !!!

I really like this shot. Composed beautifully and you got a good pose from both birds. Not easy.

Hi, Rich! It was the pose of both birds that I liked! Sometimes nature gives a photographer a great comp.......I'm happy my finger just happened to capture it! LOL!

I think you should title this:
"About time, did you stop off at the Bar on the way back from the Fish Market?"

Quiz for the day, is that the Mr. or the Mrs. bringing home the groceries?

Very well done indeed, and I agree with others, very pleasing composition. And remember that good fortune favors the prepared. Had you not been prepared ........

ps. Shame on Randy for not getting you a nice blue sky with puffy white clouds. Then again, that is what Photoshop is for

Thanks, Bill!

Great comments! Especially the quiz!

Friends have been debating whether it's the Mr or Mrs bringing home the food! My curiosity led me to get a little smarter about this bird!

Who else knows the answer?
